Hmmm, finally my first blog of the year ....... A good start to the new year ..... kekekeke
It was a busy busy last Saturday as it was my cousin's big day. Both he and his better half are starting a new journey together after almost 6 years of courtship. All of us gathered at his house at 8am in the morning ... anxiously waiting for him to "fetch" the bride over. Everyone was excited as he is the first in our generation to marry .... My grandparents (maternal side) have 13 grandchildren and it was so wonderful that they can still see their oldest grandchildren getting married .....
One cute tradition that I learned was that everyone needs to hide in the room and are not allowed to wait in the living room for the couple. They have to call back to the house when they are reaching and all of us actually run into the bedrooms! Only when they step into the house before we are "allowed" to be out of the bedrooms. They say this is to avoid those that have not so good luck falling sick if they meet the couple face to face when they step into the house!! Newly weds have the most luck as compared to anybody .... Old grandmother myth .... But we just did what we are told! Haha
One of the most touching scene is when my uncle went to the nursing home to fetch my grandpa over. He had stroke for several years and could not really recognise everyone but when he saw my cousin and his wife, he started to cry. Although we didn't really know what his thoughts are, we felt that he must be so happy to see that his eldest grandson is married now. Most of us had tears in our eyes too ....... 真的好感动
After the tea ceremony, all of went back home to prepare for the church wedding in the afternoon. I had to reach the church early to help out at the reception. This is challenging as they have 350 guests! I am the only one from our side to help out. The bride's cousin and friend help out too. Ehhh, it was not really a good reception. There were hicupps right from the start ..... First, the table was too small. The 2 girls were complaining. There is no space to place the boxes for the ang pows. We had to put them on chairs behind us. So we ended up standing .... The guest lists were not done up properly .... Many of the guests' names were not on it. We had to write them down manually ..... To me, it was really disoriented ..... But in the end, we managed to finish "taking attendance" but was a bit late. Finally, I could go back to the ceremony and witness the bride walking down the aisle. My boyfriend booked the best seat for me ... I could view the whole ceremony clearly and took many beautiful pictures ..... Yeah !!!
When the bride walked down the aisle, I could see tears welling up in her eyes ..... another touching scene .... She was so beautiful!! The priest joked that they could finally memorised their vows .... It was actually a long one .... But I do agree with the priest ... The vows are not just meant to be memorised for only that day. It must be practised wholeheartedly .... Love is unconditional ..... So true !!
Overall, it was still a beautiful wedding despite small hiccups. I am very happy for my cousin. We are of the same age and we grew up together .... Can still remember those days that we played together .... We were the only 2 grandchildren back then ...... Time really flies ....
Best wishes to you, Ah Boy and Jocelyn !!!!
